dukelogoThe home field for Duke University football, Wallace Wade Stadium, will be illuminated beginning in 2016 with high-performance energy-efficient LED stadium lights from Ephesus Lighting, Inc., the leader in providing LED lighting solutions for sports stadiums, fields and arenas and the Preferred Sports Lighting Partner of Duke University.

As part of a long-term initiative with Ephesus Lighting to upgrade the lighting at Duke University sports and recreation facilities, Wade Wallace Stadium will become the second sports field at Duke to choose the Ephesus Lighting high-performance LED solution.  Last year, Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, the home turf for the Duke women’s field hockey team, became the first NCAA Division I outdoor facility to install LED lights from Ephesus Lighting.

“Sports and entertainment venue operators all across North America have come to understand that LED is the premier lighting solution and a great way to enhance the experience for fans and players and improve conditions for broadcast partners and the facility operations team,” said Mike Lorenz, President of Ephesus Lighting. “We look forward to continuing to provide Duke University sports and recreation facilities with state-of-the-art LED lighting solutions.”

The stadium joins the growing list of prominent professional, college and municipal sports stadiums and arenas choosing an LED lighting solution from Ephesus Lighting including; U.S. Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, University of Phoenix Stadium, home field for the Arizona Cardinals, the Canadian Tire Centre, home ice of the Ottawa Senators and many more.

The Ephesus Lighting LED solution being installed at Wallace Wade Stadium will provide more illumination than the previous system while requiring just 234,000 watts of energy – resulting in a 40% reduction in energy consumption.  Additionally, the system will be operated by the Ephesus wireless control system which will provide added flexibility for facility operators and enable unique light shows and instant on/off capabilities with the flick of a switch.

Wallace Wade Stadium has been the home field for Duke University football since 1929.  Named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Wallace Wade in 1967, the open-ended horseshoe stadium added lights in 1984 consisting of four 110-foot light towers, each with 64 metal halide light bulbs.

Ephesus Lighting has led the LED lighting explosion at sports and entertainment facilities across North America by engineering LED lighting solutions that provide a significant increase in illumination when compared to all other lighting systems.  Ephesus’ LED lighting is brighter, and through its industry-leading glare-control system its fixtures shine more uniformly on the playing surface, creating a better stage for players and fans both in the stadium and those watching on high-definition television.  The versatility of LED also allows for operational flexibility and the creation of programmable light shows for fan entertainment.  Ephesus LED solutions are easy to install, maintenance-free for years and offer facilities the lowest total operating costs.

Since lighting the first sports venue with LED technology in North America in 2012, Ephesus Lighting luminaires have been operational for over 20 million hours at indoor and outdoor sports and entertainment venues across North America.  In addition to the installations at Duke University, Ephesus LED lighting solutions have been installed at other top college arenas and stadiums at Cornell, the Naval Academy, the University of Rhode Island, the University of Massachusetts, Ohio University, Purdue University and many more.
