The top-ranked UVa. baseball team plays host to Radford at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Davenport Field. Following its series win over then-No. 14 Clemson, Virginia has returned to the top spot in four of the five major national polls.

Noting the Cavaliers
Virginia won two of three games in its series with Clemson last weekend. UVa is 20-2 at home this year, including 12-1 in non-conference games.
Virginia is one of four schools nationally to not have a losing weekend this year, joining Cal Poly, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisville. UVa has captured all nine of its weekend series this year, including six straight in ACC play. The Cavaliers have won eight straight ACC series, dating to last season, and nine consecutive at home in ACC play, dating to April 2012.
Virginia owns the ACC’s top ERA at 2.06, which also stands fourth nationally. Opponents are batting an NCAA-low .194 against UVa pitchers this season; ACC hitters are batting just .182 against the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are batting .274 as a team, which ranks fifth in the ACC, while UVa continues to lead the nation in fielding at .985.
Virginia-Radford Series
Virginia leads the series with Radford, 18-4-1. Radford handed UVa its lone midweek loss of the 2013 season with a 9-8 victory over the Cavaliers on April 10. The teams also played a 3-2, 11-inning game in 2012 in Charlottesville. UVa is 7-1 vs. Radford under the current coaching staff (since 2004).

Virginia nearly dug its way out of an early eight-run hole but fell a run short in a 9-8 loss to Radford on in the teams’ last matchup on April 10, 2013, at Davenport Field. Down five runs entering the ninth inning, Virginia scored four times in its last at-bat and put the potential winning run on first base before coming up short. UVa gave up three first-inning runs and six more in the second in falling behind 9-1.
Noting Radford
Radford enters with an 18-16 record, including an 8-7 mark in Big South play, after dropping two of three games at home to Coastal Carolina last weekend. Alexander Lee leads the team in batting at .362, while Patrick Marshall is hitting .353. Hunter Higgerson tops the team in home runs (7) and RBI (28) and also is batting .304.
The Highlanders have a 4.69 team ERA and a .968 fielding percentage.

Virginia concludes its seven-game homestand this weekend (Friday through Sunday) with a three-game series with North Carolina. Following that series, five of the Cavaliers’ six games leading into their finals break will be on the road.
