As the weather turns warmer, I don’t know about you, but my family spends a lot more time outside after dark. We often wind down with our dogs, listening to sounds from our spillway bowl fountain or watching baseball on TV.
We’ve installed two weatherproof Sylvox TVs outside: one above our outdoor kitchen and one above our swimspa. With the addition of beautiful flowers and outdoor lighting, it is truly the definition of outdoor living with a resort feel to the space.
With the right solar lighting, you can also transform your backyard into a magical space that you will cherish and enjoy sharing with friends. Best of all, once you activate these products, you can forget about them, letting the sun take over.
We’ve ordered a number of products over the last eight years to try out in our own space, and we’re sharing 13 of our favorite solar-powered finds on Amazon.
Before you ask, the lights wrapped around the tree and the string lights are not solar, but you can still snag both on Amazon.

Our top picks for solar lighting
1. Solar Firework Lights
These decorative lights provide a warm glow anywhere in your yard. Some people use them as pathway lights. We use them along our fence on the back of our property with 10 of them creating a magical look. You can choose from two light options: steady or blinking. The copper wires are flexible creating a whimsical look in your own back yard.
2. Solar Swaying Lights
These viral garden lights can be used anywhere in your yard or are perfect for decorating for an outdoor party or wedding. We added these fun, whimsical lights to flower pots in our back yard to create a dancing glow of light when we are entertaining at our home. One four-pack will not be enough. We have 16 of these scattered throughout the front and back yard space at our home.
3. Solar Fence Post Lights
These versatile solar lights can be used to provide lighting for steps or a walkway, but we used these lights on each fence post in the backyard providing just enough light to spot our four-legged friends at night. In addition to its usefulness, it also provides a touch of elegance to your space. It comes in a 10-pack; we’ve purchased 4 sets, or 40 total, for use in our yard.
4. Solar Walkway Lights
These outdoor solar lights are perfect for lining your driveway, walkway or a pathway. They are bright and come with a stake for easy placement. We used these on each of our stepping stones in the back yard ensuring we don’t fall at night when it’s dark. We purchased two sets last year, and they are still going strong.
5. Motion Sensor Solar Outdoor Lights
This four-pack of outdoor solar powered spotlights offers three modes that allow you to control with three levels of brightness, including one that keeps it on even with no motion. These are perfect for lighting up signs, your address or house number. We have used these in multiple places: to illuminate our address sign and house number on our mailbox. We’ve also used them to light up our wine bottle tree.
6. Mosaic Solar Wild Bird Feeder
While the solar bird feeder is perfect for its intended purpose, we love this product and use it for a pop of color near other bird feeders in our back yard. We have this on a hook over our outdoor pond. The mosaic pattern is unique and while it makes a great gift, you will want one for yourself too.
7. Outdoor Hanging Solar Powered Crackle Glass Ball Lights
These beautiful crackle glass ball lights are the perfect addition to any tree where you want to create a beautiful display of light. They can be used for a party or wedding, but we’ve added them to two Kousa dogwood trees in our back yard. The clips ensure they stay put for the long haul.
8. Butterfly Solar Lantern
This solar lantern, when properly placed, provides the warm glow of butterflies to pavement or a table. Find a spot where it has room wide enough to cast the full design. We have several of these in our backyard. You can choose a pattern with butterflies, hummingbirds, tree of life, squirrels or deer.
9. Solar Glass Mosaic Ball
While the solar glass mosaic ball is compact, it delivers a vibrant punch of color wherever you place it. We ordered two and added them to our outdoor bar – one on each end. They stand out in a back yard with mostly warm clear lights.
10. Hummingbird Solar Rain Gauge
Looking to measure rainfall but also create some beauty in your back yard? This solar rain gauge adds some whimsy and beauty to your back yard during the day but especially at night. We placed ours in a flower pot near the back door so we could keep an eye on the amount of rainfall without leaving the house.
11. Solar Mason Jar Lights
While the lights were designed for a party or wedding decoration, we’ve used these lights to create a magical environment in our back yard. Our arbor features built in shelves and the lights, which we added to the top of blue mason jars, to create an artistic masterpiece. We’ve used other colors elsewhere in our gardens, lining our fountain and steps at our home. Jars are not included. Hangers are provided if you want to hang these in trees or elsewhere.
12. Garden Solar Lights
We splurged on two garden solar lights that add a celestial touch to our back yard space. Both are on stakes making their placement in your garden easy. We chose one that is a flower design and one that resembles the sun.

13. Crackle Glass Globe Lotus Flower Light
If you are looking for a beautiful glowing flower in your back yard, this lotus flower light will not disappoint. We have one of these placed at the entrance to our garden, but you could add several for an event or more impactful presentation.
