Lynchburg scores two in the ninth, but falls in 10

Two runs in the bottom of the ninth forced extra innings for the Hillcats, but a three-run homer from Drew Dosch in the 10^th was the difference in Frederick’s 10-8 win on Sunday afternoon.

Frederick held a 5-2 lead after the first three frames. Brenden Webb drove in a run in the first with a double to right field and Josh Hart collected an RBI single in the second before the Hillcats could get on the board.

Mike Papi brought the first run home for Lynchburg when he smashed a double off the center field wall scoring Nellie Rodriguez.

The Keys bounced back with three in the third on RBIs from Drew Dosch, Adrian Marin, and Johnny Ruettiger, for a 5-1 lead.

Nellie Rodriguez trimmed that lead in the bottom half of the inning with a flair single to right field that scored Luigi Rodriguez all the way from first.

After the Keys scored a run in the fifth on another RBI from Dosch, the ‘Cats scored two in the bottom half of the inning to trim the lead to two.

Clint Frazier scored on a wild pitch from David Hess and Nellie Rodriguez drove in Bradley Zimmer with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Frederick scored one in the seventh to restore their three-run lead on another RBI from Dosch, but the Hillcats scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to force extra innings.

Paul Hendrix doubled to left in the eighth to score Eric Haase and bring Lynchburg back within two.

In the ninth, Frazier came to the plate with two outs. Down in the count 0-2, he obliterated a breaking ball to left make it a 7-6 game.

Haase knotted things up at seven with a base hit up the middle that scored Zimmer.

The Hillcats were unable to push the winning run across with the bases loaded and two outs and the game went to extra innings.

Drew Dosch was the difference maker on Sunday afternoon. He came to the plate in the 10^th with three RBIs already to his name and blasted a three-run home run to right field to give the Keys a 10-7 lead.

The Hillcats scored once in the bottom half on an RBI single from Frazier, but Lynchburg fell by a final of 10-8.

Drew Dosch’s six RBIs are the most by any opposing player against the Hillcats this season… The Hillcats fell to 1-3 in extra innings this season, while the Keys improved to 5-0… Clint Frazier hit the 23^rd solo home run of the year for Lynchburg… The Hillcats’ 23 solo home runs are more than every other Carolina League team’s total home runs… The Hillcats are 1-20 when trailing after six innings, which is the worst mark in the league… Lynchburg is 1-6 in games decided in the last at-bat this season.
