JMU football coach Everett Withers talks Maryland

Chris Graham

JMU football will open a new era under first-year head coach Everett Withers Saturday when he takes the Dukes to College Park. Md., to face the newest member of the Big Ten in the Maryland Terrapins.

JMU has played twice at Maryland in the past, most recently in 2009 when the Terps claimed a 38-35 victory in overtime. Maryland also won the first meeting, 23-15, back in 1998.

Withers, who has installed a 3-4 defense and an up tempo multiple offense, was the head coach in one other season-opening game, a 42-10 win against JMU in 2011 when he was the interim at North Carolina.

Saturday’s kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
