Oops! Short Sleeve Sampson in hot water over backstage photo?

Chris Graham

short sleeveIt was a simple photo: short sleeve sampson at ringside hours before the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view smiling for the camera not far from where he’d be set up as an announcer for the WeeLC match that night.

Nothing is simple with ringside wrestling photos on social media, though, not when you can make out John Cena and the Wyatts in the background apparently working out the details of their upcoming match.

“They say a picture is worth a thousand words but in my case it has become the center of a lot of controversy. I want to publicly apologize to the WWE, the workers in this business who give their blood, sweat, and tears, and to all the fans that continue to support it,” Sampson said in an apology on his Facebook page after a controversy erupted over the photo.

Sampson clearly didn’t see Cena and the Wyatts – and a slumping JBL at the main broadcast table – in the background before posting the pic.

“I love this business and I feel honored to be a part of it,” Sampson said. “I would never intentionally try to do anything to compromise it or break kayfabe. I do want to thank all those responsible for keeping this story going and for being the ones who are truly exposing the business.”

Sampson is near the halfway point of his Midget Time Farewell Tour, which included a recent appearance at a Shenandoah Valley Championship Wrestling show in Luray, Va.

“I wanted it to be memorable, but I never imagined anything I would do would become this talked about!” Sampson said.
