Somehow, some way, the mysterious select panel responsible for honoring the ACC Football Players of the Week only saw fit to put two guys from Florida State on the main line.

Coulda put the whole team there, the way the ‘Noles beat down Virginia on Saturday.

Maybe the faceless selectors felt pity for the folks from Charlottesville.

Week 5 honorees

QB: Ashton Daniels, Florida State

  • Set the Florida State single-game record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with five in the 38–7 win over Virginia.
  • His five rushing touchdowns tied the ACC single-game record by a quarterback, matching Georgia Tech’s TaQuon Marshall against Tennessee on September 4, 2017.
  • Tied Florida State’s single-game record with 30 points scored.
  • Was the first player since at least 1995 with at least 180 passing yards, 130 rushing yards and five touchdowns scored.
  • Became the only Division I or NFL player over the last 30 seasons to record at least five rushing touchdowns, 150 passing yards and an 80-yard touchdown run in a single game.

Running back: Tylik Hill, Syracuse

  • Rushed 28 times for 140 yards, both career highs, in Syracuse’s 42-41 overtime win over UConn.

Receiver: Umari Hatcher, Syracuse

  • Caught 12 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns – including the deciding score on a fourth-and-goal from the 17-yard line in overtime – to lead Syracuse past UConn on the road.

O line: André Otto, Florida State

  • Was reported to have recorded seven knockdown blocks and nine touchdown and/or first-down blocks. No sourcing given on where that info would have come from. We’re just to take their word for it, apparently.

D line: Marques White, SMU

  • Tied a career-high with three sacks and three tackles-for-loss in SMU’s 25-16 win over Boston College.

Linebacker: Popo Aguirre, NC State

  • Recovered three fumbles in the Wolfpack’s win over Louisville.

Defensive back: Jarvis Lee, SMU

  • Recorded a team-high nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss in the win over Boston College.
  • Also forced a fumble, his second of the season.

Special teams: Jaden Jefferson, North Carolina

  • On his first touch of the football in his collegiate career, Jefferson returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against Notre Dame.

Rookie of the Week: Taimane Purcell, TE, Cal

  • Caught three passes for 102 yards and a touchdown against UNLV.
  • His 91-yard touchdown reception from Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele was the second-longest pass play in Cal’s program history.
