Drought update: It’s still mighty droughty, pending whatever Isaias does in Virginia

Friday’s update from the Drought Monitoring Task Force recommended lifting the drought watch in Bland County, Grayson County and Wythe County in the New River drought evaluation region.

The Task Force noted above-normal precipitation in western portions of the Roanoke evaluation region and in the New River drought evaluation region, where totals were primarily between 1.5 to 2.5 inches over the past week.

Sustained rain in the past few weeks has prevented drought conditions from worsening statewide, but that’s about it.

We say all of this with a forecast for significant rainfall over the next couple of days from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias.
