Four nonprofits will benefit through a donation from UVA Health to honor its more than 18,000 employees during the holidays.
In total, UVA Health is donating $37,500 in Charlottesville, Culpeper and Northern Virginia.
The 2025 donations will benefit All Blessings Flow, the Culpeper Food Closet, Fauquier FISH and Action in Community Through Service.
“I am so thankful for the commitment of all of our team members to providing the highest-quality patient care, researching medical breakthroughs, educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and serving our communities,” said Mitchell Rosner, MD, chief executive officer for UVA Health and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Virginia. “To show our appreciation for our team’s dedication to taking care of others, we wanted to make these donations to charitable groups that help our neighbors across Virginia.”
UVA Health and the University Medical Center had a challenging year with 120 professors and healthcare workers demanding the resignation of UVA School of Medicine Dean Melina Kibbe and UVA Health Chief Executive Officer K. Craig Kent for allegedly creating a culture of fear and retaliation.
After an independent review of the allegations, Kent offered his resignation to the Board of Visitors. Kibbe left UVA in September to serve as president of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
UVA Health donations
- All Blessings Flow/$15,000: Provides free medical equipment and supplies to residents of Charlottesville and Central Virginia with disabilities and serious health conditions
- Culpeper Food Closet/$7,500: Outreach ministry of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Culpeper; volunteers provide food and personal-care items to residents
- Fauquier FISH/$7,500: Serves more than 660 families in Fauquier County each year by providing healthy food to residents in need, book bags of school supplies to county schoolchildren and food for students when school is not in session
- Action in Community Through Service (ACTS)/$7,500: Serves the greater Prince William area through a hunger prevention center, utility assistance and permanent housing, as well as programs addressing domestic violence and sexual abuse.
The annual giving on behalf of employees predates Rosner. Last year, UVA Health selected five nonprofits which received $7,500 each, including Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, the Salvation Army Charlottesville Corps, the Culpeper Food Closet, Creating Foundations for Home and Fauquier FISH.
