Columbia Gas of Virginia adjusts natural gas costs

AFP

columbia gasColumbia Gas of Virginia customers will see a change to their customer bills being mailed this week.

The new typical residential total monthly bill will increase slightly to $27.97 from a current bill of $26.81. The bill is based on a seasonal consumption of 1.3 Dekatherms (Dth).  A Dth is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 1,000 cubic feet (Mcf).

“The quarterly gas cost adjustment continues to reflect historically low natural gas costs and when compared to the same billing period in 2015, the year-over year customer bill remains lower by about 8.6 percent or $2.66, which means that natural gas continues to offer a great price benefit for all our customers,” said Brent Archer, Columbia’s President. “While this gas cost adjustment continues the trend of lower natural gas costs, it is offset slightly during this period by a revenue normalization adjustment reflecting the weather impact from this past winter.”

When Columbia Gas is able to purchase lower-priced natural gas on the commodity market, it is passed along directly in the form of lower prices to the more than 257,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers Columbia Gas serves across Virginia.
