After Secretary Kerry became the highest ranking American official to visit Hiroshima, Japan, Paul Kawika Martin the policy and political director of Peace Action (the largest peace group in the U.S. founded on abolishing nuclear weapons) who has been to the same park three times, made the following statement:
“Peace Action praises Secretary Kerry and the other foreign ministers that visited Hiroshima’s Peace Park in Japan to honor those who died during the atomic bombing and to call for a nuclear weapons free world. We call on President Obama to also visit Hiroshima next month during the G7 meeting and to not only repeat the calls for the abolishment of nuclear weapons but to make a commitment of action that will take the world closer to that goal while he is President.”
“The U.S. cannot on the one hand say it is for ridding the world of nuclear weapons while at the same time it continues its plan to spend one trillion dollars over thirty years to upgrade warheads and delivery systems.”
