Staunton rallied for five runs in the final two innings, but an early offensive explosion by Waynesboro held up for the Generals, who won 7-5 in a rain-shortened game at John Moxie Memorial Stadium Saturday night.

Waynesboro jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead on a throwing error that allowed Bradley Noland to score on a Julian Ridings sacrifice bunt and an RBI single by Brandon Glazer that scored Ridings.

The Generals broke the game open with a four-run third, in which Staunton starter Sam Howard (3-2) imploded, walking in one run and hitting Ridings with a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another. Waynesboro also scored a run on a wild pitch and led 6-0 after three.

Brandon Murray’s 10th homer of the season extended the lead to 7-0 after four. Staunton made it interesting with two in the fifth and three in the sixth off Generals starter Seth Lucio (3-2), but Josh Bullock got the last two outs to record his sixth save of the season.

The win gives Waynesboro a 7-0 record against Staunton in 2012 and is the 16th win in 17 games against the Braves dating back to the start of the 2011 season.

The Generals are on the road again Sunday at Covington.
