deeds-header-newFormer Democratic Party gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds has endorsed State Sen. Ralph Northam for the Democratic Party nomination for lieutenant governor.

Deeds, a Bath County state senator, made two unsuccessful bids for state office, losing in the 2005 attorney general’s race and the 2009 governor’s race, both times to Republican Bob McDonnell.

“With the balance of power in the Virginia Senate at stake, we must win this race. Ralph Northam is the candidate who has what it takes to win, and that’s why he has my support in his campaign for the Democratic nomination,” Deeds said in a statement emailed to supporters today.
