Stimulus funds to go to programs for infants, toddlers with disabilities

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on Friday announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has appropriated significant funding for Virginia’s Early Intervention Program under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The U.S. Department of Education awarded more than $10 million for Virginia under the Part C Grants for Infants and Families program. These awards will be in addition to the regular fiscal year 2009 grants for infants and toddlers that were made on July 1, 2009.  Read more

RMH receives regional award for contribution to EMS

The Central Shenandoah Emergency Medical Services Council (CSEMSC) recently presented Rockingham Memorial Hospital with its annual regional award for outstanding contribution to emergency medical service.
RMH was honored along with eight individuals, one regional EMS agency and one coalition at a July 22 ceremony. Read more

Staunton firefighters to aid MDA

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local #3468 in Staunton will be on the intersection of Richmond Road and Greenville Avenue on Wednesday, Sept. 2 for the first day of the annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Home sales up for fourth consecutive month

Existing-home sales were up in July, the fourth consecutive month that sales were up, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Existing-home sales were up 7.2 percent in July over where they were in June and 5.0 percent over where they were in July 2008. Read more

Health-care town hall set for Sept. 6

Augusta County Republican David Karaffa is putting together a health-care town hall at Riverheads High School on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m.
