Survey: Most Americans prefer home workouts to the gym

fitness exercise gymA new survey from Schwinn Fitness finds that 65 percent of Americans prefer to work out at home versus going to a gym.

Bad news: eating potato chips on the couch binge-watching Netflix doesn’t count as a home workout.

The survey, asking 1,000 Americans about their exercise routines and preferences, listed cost as the top reason for the preference for home, with 45 percent saying gym memberships are too pricey.

Which is to say, they cost more than Netflix.

Thirty-two percent say getting to the gym is too much of a hassle.

Of note, 24 percent said they “don’t like working out next to gym rats.”

Totally get that one. The goomers who can bench-press ’57 Chevys don’t need to be in the gym anyway.

More from the survey:

  • Seventy-seven percent use stationary bikes to watch more TV. The other 23 percent lied and said they read while on the exercise bike.
  • Forty-one percent listen to music from their phone while working out. Which begs the question: what are the other 59 percent listening to? Their own heavy breathing?
