State expands Fraud, Waste and Abuse Hotline

As part of his government reform initiatives to make Virginia state agencies run more efficiently and effectively, Gov. Bob McDonnell has signed Executive Order Number 52 (2012) establishing the State Fraud, Waste and Abuse Hotline for use by citizens. The State Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline was previously available only to state employees who wished to report fraud and abuse.

Sen. Warner signs on as sponsor of FAST Voting Act

U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va) joined Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) in introducing legislation today that will make voting faster and more accessible to all voters. The Fair, Accurate, Secure and Timely (FAST) Voting Act of 2012 creates a competitive grant program to encourage states to aggressively pursue election reforms. It would provide incentives for states like Virginia to invest in practices and technology designed to expedite voting at the polls and simplify voter registration.

Waynesboro receives Locality Stormwater Program Development Grant

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced this week the award of 59 Virginia Locality Stormwater Program Development grants totaling more than $2 million statewide. These grants, including one to the City of Waynesboro, will assist more than 100 local governments in developing locally run programs to reduce stormwater runoff from developed lands.

McDonnell seeks federal assistance related to Sandy

Gov. Bob McDonnell today asked for federal disaster assistance to help 28 Virginia communities recover from the affects of Hurricane Sandy, an extremely large storm that brought high winds, heavy rains, coastal erosion and tidal flooding to the eastern portion of the Commonwealth and dropped significant snowfall in the west and southwest. Sandy caused three tragic deaths in Virginia.
