Will Bill Bolling run for governor as an independent?

At first glance, the numbers don’t seem to add up. Polling released earlier this month has Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling sitting in the mid-teens among Virginia voters in a hypothetical three-way race for governor if Bolling were to run as an independent against Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli, and mid-teens is nowhere near where you’d like to be in a three-way race, since at the least you’d need to be in the mid-30s to win a three-way.

UVa. and Oregon will meet in football for a two-game series in 2013 and 2016, the schools jointly announced today. The teams are scheduled to meet Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Charlottesville and during the 2016 season in Eugene at Autzen Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

The UVa. women’s basketball team held off a late rally by the Demon Deacons to earn a 69-64 victory at Wake Forest. After Virginia built up a 19-point lead, Wake, with its pressure defense and three-point shooting, managed to cut the deficit to five points, 65-60, with 34 seconds left in the game, but the Cavaliers’ late free throw shooting along with grabbing an offensive rebound in the final six seconds of the game helped Virginia hold on for the victory.

On a 24-16 vote Friday the Virginia Senate passed landmark employment protections for LGBT Virginians in state government. There are currently no protections in law for LGBT citizens who are discriminated against on the job in Virginia government.

The Republican-controlled House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee on Friday approved Del. Bob Marshall’s extreme bill that will prevent the Virginia government from complying with federal gun control legislation enacted after Dec. 31, 2012.
