Virginia (35-6, 16-5) outscored the Seminoles 16-4 and did not trail in the series in recording the program’s first-ever three-game series sweep against FSU (31-9, 13-8).

Virginia (34-6, 15-5 ACC) swept a doubleheader for the first time in program history against Florida State (31-8, 13-7) while clinching its sixth ACC series win in seven tries this year.

Virginia will host the University of Notre Dame at Scott Stadium in 2015, as announced today by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC announced which league members the Fighting Irish will play in the first three seasons of their football partnership with the conference that begins with the 2014 season.

Gov. Bob McDonnell issued a letter earlier this month urging college presidents and boards to voluntarily keep in-state tuition increases for the upcoming fall semester to the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index. Virginia colleges and universities worked closely with the administration last year to hold tuition increases to an average of 4.1 percent, the lowest average tuition increase in a decade. Virginia’s colleges and universities are currently determining tuition rates for the upcoming school year.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Thursday that the Commonwealth Transportation Board advanced over $150 million in long-sought transportation improvement projects at its meeting in Richmond yesterday. These projects are being funded as a result of the Governor’s 2011 Transportation Funding and Reform Package.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is beginning work to remove an unstable area of soil on Afton Mountain above Interstate 64 at milepost 100.3 in Albemarle County. The emergency work will require closing the right lane of westbound I-64 from milepost 103 to milepost 100.
