‘Roadmap’ of human metabolism offers new understanding of cancer, obesity, more

An international consortium of researchers has created the largest computer model of human metabolism to date, an astonishingly detailed roadmap that points the way to better understanding of cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and a host of other conditions. It’s a powerful new tool that will speed the development of new drugs and treatments and, eventually, may allow doctors to tailor medicine to each patient’s personal biology.

Poll: Ken Cuccinelli leads in governor’s race among disinterested electorate

Virginia voters know little about the two candidates for governor, according to a new Washington Post poll looking at the Ken Cuccinelli-Terry McAuliffe race. Cuccinelli, the Republican attorney general, has a 51 percent-to-41 percent lead over McAuliffe, the Democratic nominee, among likely voters, according to the Post poll. The defining numbers in the poll aren’t there, though, but rather in the limited information on the candidates among the voter base and the limited interest in the race in general among state residents.

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe officially launched his campaign today in front of a crowd of about 200 in Norfolk. McAuliffe laid out his transportation plan and vision for how the next Governor of Virginia can help strengthen and diversify the Commonwealth’s economy. Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim introduced McAuliffe.
