UVA reaches agreement Education Department regarding sexual assault policies

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the University of Virginia announced today that UVA has entered into a resolution agreement to ensure that the University’s handling of sexual violence and sexual harassment complies with the requirements of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX).

Virginia receives $1.4 million to test more than 2,000 untested sexual assault evidence kits

Attorney General Mark Herring and Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran announced today that the Commonwealth of Virginia has received a $1.4 million grant to conduct DNA testing and analyze more than 2,000 untested Physical Evidence Recovery Kits (PERKs) associated with sexual assaults in Virginia.

Dayton man arrested in sexual assault of 12-year-old Waynesboro girl

The Waynesboro Police Department has charged a Rockingham County man for sexually assaulting a 12 year old girl earlier in the summer. Alexander Joseph Clemens, 20 years old of Dayton, faces one felony charge of aggravated sexual battery stemming from the mid July assault on the Waynesboro girl.

Waynesboro man charged in sexual assault of family member

The Waynesboro Police Department has charged a local man after an he abducted, abused and sexually assaulted a family member Tuesday night. Ronald Issiah Burton, 30, is in custody and is accused of putting a 30-year-old Waynesboro woman through an eight hour ordeal of rape and assault at a residence in the 900 block of Shenandoah Avenue.
