
Staunton Music Guild helps buy new bass for VSDB band
The Staunton Music Guild recently presented the Virginia School of the Deaf and the Blind’s (VSDB) Bluegrass Band with a new standup bass for their musical program.

Thirteen Bath Community Senior Center members and three staff members enjoyed an overnight trip May 21 – 22 to Wytheville, VA, courtesy of The Bath County Parks and Recreation. With an early morning start and a quick stop for lunch, we arrived at the Quality Inn in Wytheville.

Two of the Valley’s outstanding musicians will close out May at WTA’s Gateway on Friday, May 30 at 8 pm. Bert Carlson last performed at the Gateway in November as part of the theatre’s jazz series. This time he is joined by T. J. Johnson.

The Friday, May 16th River City Radio Hour will host local favorites, Chrystal McKee and Dustin Roadcap, at the performance and another chapter of Basic City Boys by Richard Adams.

The music of the legendary Carter family lives on. Dale Jett with Teresa Jett and Oscar Harris provide the closest link possible to the music of the original Carter family as they continue the unbroken circle of music that has influenced them.

The Black Keys will embark on an extensive North American tour this fall. Promoted exclusively by Live Nation, the tour begins Sept. 5 in Columbus and runs through December, with a date at the Richmond Coliseum on Dec. 6.

WTA’s Gateway will host the eight and final round of the Open Mic Talent Night Competition on Thursday, May 1st at 7:00 pm. The prize for the winner will be a $50 cash prize and a chance to participate in the grand finale competition, “Talent of the Year”, in June.
