Interstate 81 accident leaves live wires in road, hours of backups

At 3:01 p.m. Monday, Virginia State Police Trooper A.J. Wouters was called to the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at the 243 mile marker for a tractor-trailer crash. A southbound tractor-trailer ran off the right side of the road, struck the guardrail, continued up an embankment, struck a utility pole, and then struck a sign before finally coming to rest.

The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team posted its first 20-win season in school history as it downed Maryland 6-1 in an ACC Tournament quarterfinal Sunday in front of 2,349 fans at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers (20-0) advance to meet Virginia Tech in Friday’s ACC semifinals in Cary, N.C., while the Terrapins (10-10) were eliminated from their final ACC Tournament.

I’m not second-guessing the move to can Reid in favor of Jon Tenuta, who followed associate head coach Tom O’Brien to UVa. after O’Brien and his staff were let go by N.C. State last year. Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli, trailing in the polls heading into the final weekend of the 2013 election, is playing up his opposition to Obamacare to try to stir up his political base. Cuccinelli’s office on Friday sent out a press release touting how he “applauded the efforts of employers in Virginia and elsewhere” challenging the IRS on Obamacare.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.
