Del. Dickie Bell (R-Staunton), a retired special education teacher, encourages teachers to apply for the newly created Governor’s Teacher Cabinet. The Cabinet, comprised of teachers from across the Commonwealth, will advise the governor and Secretary of Education on policies related to the status of teaching in Virginia.

Eleven large baskets have been placed in the Hot Springs BB&T Bank for a silent auction. These theme baskets are named the “Fountain of Youth” basket, “Let’s Go Gardening”, “Start Your Engines”, “Breakfast in Bed”, “Tea Time,” “Playing a Round,” “Baby Comfort Station,” “Day Spa,” “Love My Pets,” “Day at the Beach” and “Picnic Time.”

Staunton Music Guild launches Gift of Music Program

The first local performance sponsored by the Staunton Music Guild’s “Gift of Music” program will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Waynesboro Public Library, 600 S. Wayne Ave. The Staunton Music Guild (SMG) will provide matching funds to the Friends of the Library to present The Harmony Sisters at noon. The Harmony Sisters are SMG members Brenda Remis and Beth Lins. They will be performing a program of gospel, bluegrass and original songs.

Application submissions being accepted for Ray Houser Scholarship

The Staunton Music Guild recently announced the application process for the Ray Houser Scholarship is open for 2013. The scholarship fund was established in 2011 by the Staunton Music Guild in honor of Mr. Houser’s dedication to radio broadcasting, music, and his steadfast commitment towards helping others in his Shenandoah Valley community.

Del. Dickie Bell to represent Virginia at regional education conference

Del. Dickie Bell announced today that he has been chosen by the Speaker of the House of Delegates, Bill Howell, to represent the Commonwealth at the Southern Regional Education Board’s Annual Legislative Work Conference. Additionally, Speaker Howell appointed him to the National Governors’ Association Center for Best Practices Three Branch Institute on “Child Social and Emotional Well- Being.”
