Parks and Rec announces Summer Extravaganza schedule

You don’t want to miss the 34th annual Summer Extravaganza celebration! Bring the whole family to Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro for a day full of good, family fun. There will be arts & crafts vendors from around the state, and a variety of entertainment including cloggers, magicians, pony rides, hot air balloon rides, live music, and lots of great food!

Winner takes all at Gateway talent finale

Audiences at WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, June 29, will listen to the winners from the last six Gateway Talent Nights and crown the winner in the grand finale. Hosted by Lorie Strother, the Dreaded Blues Lady, the performance will feature eight performers who were selected by Gateway audiences as the best performers in the monthly Talent Nights. The winner of the final round will receive a cash prize, a professional video and a paid gig at WTA’s Gateway in the Fall.

If you’ve noticed a lot of medium-distance flyball outs from Valley League hitters this year, and not nearly as many home runs as in previous years, well, you’re onto something. Hitting numbers are down across the league and across the spectrum, from the banner year for hitters that was 2012, which seems upon analysis to have been very much an outlier, but also even from more statistically consistent years in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Farm Market Fresh for Seniors Program Back in June

During two enrollment sessions in June, older adults with limited income will be eligible to receive $40 in coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs at the Staunton, Verona, and Waynesboro Farmer’s Markets this summer, thanks to the Farm Market Fresh for Seniors Program jointly sponsored by Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS), Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
