SMAC’s Remedy Rule competes at USA Swimming Winter Nationals

SMAC swimmer Remedy Rule competed against some of the best swimmers in the country this past weekend at the AT&T USA Swimming Winter Nationals at the University of Tennessee. Rule swam four events in the meet (100 & 200 fly, 200 free and 200 back) and swam fast enough to return to swim in finals at night in three of her four events.

Winter Storm Warning: Shenandoah Valley braces for ice storm

Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro are under a Winter Storm Warning as the Shenandoah Valley is under the throes of a snow and ice storm today into Monday morning. The warning is in effect through 10 a.m. Monday with a forecast of 1-3 inches of snow and sleet before the precipitation turns over to freezing rain this afternoon.

McDonnell: Virginia preparing for possible significant ice storm

Gov. Bob McDonnell today encouraged Virginians to prepare for a potentially disruptive early-season ice storm that will affect the Commonwealth this Sunday. While exact impacts are still somewhat uncertain, Virginians should make preparations now for possible power outages, that could be lengthy if large amounts of ice accumulate.

Mathers Construction update on Valley Businesses Give Back

Mathers Construction is in the spirit of giving and has joined the Valley Businesses Give Back effort to raise money and gather donated food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. This week, United Rentals and Fastenal dropped off donations at the Mathers office in Waynesboro to go toward Valley Businesses Give Back.

AG’s office uses $245,000 taken from criminals to buy bulletproof vests for Virginia law enforcement

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli gave a grant of $245,000 to buy bulletproof vests for local Virginia law enforcers who do not currently have them. He presented the funds to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office to help establish a program to provide protective equipment to law enforcement agencies that are unable to afford them for their own officers.
