VaSID honors VT’s Dave Smith, UVa.’s Rich Murray

The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) presented the organization’s Distinguished Service Award to two statewide legends in the field of athletic communications. Rich Murray of the University of Virginia and Dave Smith of Virginia Tech received the honor at VaSID’s annual meeting on June 6 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.

Grace Race expands to include cornhole and pancakes

Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church will host the Grace Race+ on Saturday, April 13, with activities starting at 8 a.m. This year, the 4th annual 5K run and walk expands to include a Pancake Breakfast, a Cornhole Tournament, a Silent Auction and plenty of free activities for children and their families. The Grace Race+ will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Augusta County/Waynesboro, the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center Foundation and the TSPC Youth.

Folks in Waynesboro realize that there’s a jewel of a basketball team that plays up on the hill overlooking downtown, right? Um, well, no. I mean, Roy Williams knows. You know, the North Carolina basketball coach? Won a national championship or two? He was in the gym watching a game in the Best Western Waynesboro Caisson Shootout today.

October Radio Hour showcases Chapman Stick player

The October River City Radio Hour will have as it special guest Chapman Stick player extraordinaire, Flint Blade. Described as ‘an innovative solo musician from South Florida’, Blade will share the Radio Hour stage with the Boogie Kings, Marsha Howard and the River City Players. The 6:30 and 8 pm performances are at WTA’s Gateway, 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro. Doors open at 6 pm.
