More than 50 entries including floats, cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, bands, scouts, and yes, most importantly, the veterans we all want to honor will march through Downtown Staunton.

Saturday’s surprising day of results among the top teams led to nine teams earning first-place votes on Monday, but Eastern Washington (5-1) was still a decisive No. 1 over James Madison, which moved up two spots to No. 2 after beating William & Mary in double overtime. The Dukes (5-1) gained 42 first- place votes and 3,831 points.

Repubilcan rival George Allen is also on the air with a new spot that asks the question, Will you still have a job if Washington fails to do its job?

Mark Strauss is not only a Holocaust survivor. He is also an artist and author. His presentation at Waynesboro Public Library on Thursday, October 11 will connect these two avocations to his poignant story of survival and hope as a child in Nazi-occupied Poland. The evening’s presentation, in cooperation with the Foundation for Holocaust Education Projects, starts at 6 p.m. with a segment for children and will be followed by one for adults at 7:30 p.m.

Award-winning photojournalist Gary Fabiano will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

With the election a month away and as the nation prepares to watch the debates between our two presidential candidates, small-business owners will be listening for what the tewo candidates have to say about the next four years as our nation’s economy continues to recover from the recession that occurred in 2008.

An additional $3 million in TV, radio, print and online ad buys will push the total marketing commitment of the Tim Kaine Senate campaign to $7.5 million. The Kaine campaign announced the additional buys Tuesday and attributed the extra money in the budget to substantial growth in its donor base. The campaign has now received donations from more than 40,000 individuals, with more than 10,000 of those donors contributing money to the campaign for the first time in the past six weeks.
