Route 33 (Spotswood Trail), one of the only highways connecting Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, is open to traffic. The Virginia Department of Transportation completed cleanup and stabilization of slopes on the east side of the pass across Swift Run Gap and opened the road at 6:30 p.m.

The right lane of northbound Interstate 81 is scheduled to close at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, June 1) for bridge deck repairs at mile marker 271.5 in Shenandoah County. The location is between exit 269 (Shenandoah Caverns) and exit 273 (Mount Jackson/Basye).

Heavy rainfall overnight caused flash flooding in Albemarle County, mudslides that have closed Route 33 at Swift Run Gap, and swept away a vehicle and its two occupants.

Work on the CSX railroad crossing on Route 56 in the Wingina area of Nelson County near the Buckingham County line will require the closure of that portion of Route 56 for several days in early June.

Paving work at the Route 250 / Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell will close the westbound entrance ramp overnight tonight. The work will begin at 8 p.m. and will be completed no later than 6 a.m. Thursday.

A portion of Route 638 (Howellsville Road) in Clarke County is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, May 30, for a pipe replacement. The work zone is 3.1 miles south of Route 50 (John Mosby Highway) in the Shenandoah Farms area.
