Staunton District Traffic Alert: July 2-6

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 31 to 28, westbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday-Saturday through July 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Traffic signals at I-64 ramps and Winterberry Avenue transition from flash mode to full operation through June 29. Be alert for changing traffic patterns. Occasional daytime lane closures continue through mid-July.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mobile work zones for patching and tree cleanup at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 627 (Scotchtown Draft Road) – Lane closures at Route 629 (Deerfield Road) for bridge work over Stuart Run, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through August 7. Vehicles restricted to 10 feet in width.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mobile work zones for tree cleanup at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 608 (Ravens Run Road) – Flagger traffic control for bridge work near intersection with Route 220 (Jackson River Road) weekdays through July 20.

(NEW) Mile marker 211 to 205, southbound – Overnight right lane closures for replacement of pavement markers. July 3 and July 6 from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 219 to 221, northbound – Overnight right lane closure for milling and paving operations to extend exit 220 deceleration lane. July 2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 224 to 222, southbound – Overnight right lane closures for milling and paving operations to extend exit 222 deceleration lane. July 1-2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime shoulder closures for sign installation, June 29-30 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mile marker 237 to 231, southbound – Overnight single lane closures with temporary ramp closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday through Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through October 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Right shoulder closures in area of Country Club Road for sign installation. July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Overnight alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1512 (Gloucester Road). Through July 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic through summer 2018 between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 649 (Round Hill Drive) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 643 (Augusta Farms Road) to Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 662 – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 693 (Berry Moore Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 681 (Mount Herman Road, Newport area) – Road closed through July 20 between Route 679 (Campbell Hollow Road) and Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) for installation of culvert at tributary of Walkers Creek. Follow posted detour.

Route 697 (Old Greenville Road) – Mobile lane closures for pavement marking from Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) to Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway). Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road). Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 33 (Town of Elkton) – Alternating lane closures for bridge work over Fifth Street and Norfolk Southern railway. Through July 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 (Harpine Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 753(Kratzer Road) to Route 859 (Jesse Bennett Way). July 3-10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement at Dry Run. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(NEW) Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 921(Lairs Run Road) to West Virginia state line. July 2-6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated project completion November 2018.

Route 613 (North Mountain Road) – Flagger and pilot-truck traffic for paving operations from Route 881 to county line. Weekdays through July 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Flagger and pilot-truck traffic for paving operations from Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) to Route 718 (Minie Ball Lane). July 2-3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 701 (Cooks Creek Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Route 726 (Mount Clinton Pike) to Route 763 (Singers Glen Road) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 815 (Third Hill Road) – Road closed for flood repairs in area of Route 817 (Genoa Road).

Route 867 (North River Road) – Road closed through fall 2018 for bridge replacement over Pleasant Run. Follow posted detours.

Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Right shoulder closures for pavement marking from Harrisonburg city line to Route 763 (Mount Clinton Pike) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

(UPDATE) Route 988 (Scholars Road) – Temporary causeway with 24/7 “Stop & Proceed” traffic pattern during Pleasant Run bridge replacement, through July 20. Work zone between Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) and Route 989 (Valley Branch Road).

Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) – Flagger traffic control for paving operations from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 649 (Island Ford Road). Weekdays through July 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 211 – Alternating lane closures for paving from Route 340 to Route 611 (Kimball Road). June 29 – July 13 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(NEW) Route 211 Business (West Main Street) – Eastbound lane closures from (Hawksbill Street) to Route 340 for bridge work. July 2-3 and July 5-6 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 – Alternating lane closures for paving from Route 211 to Landfill Drive. July 2-6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 Business – Overnight lane closures for pavement work in area of Route 650 (Wampler Drive). Through July 20 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through July 31.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) – Road closed 2.7 miles north of Route 211 and 1 mile south of Route 654 (Kibler Drive) for box culvert installation. Through July 5. Follow posted detours.

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end. Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Single lane traffic for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Northbound traffic uses right lane of new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic uses right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Traffic pattern in place through July 6. Speed limit 35 miles an hour.

(NEW) Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 628 (Middle Road) to Route 622 (Clary Road). Through July 13 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(NEW) Route 263 (Orkney Grade) – Alternating lane closures for pavement work from Route 721 (Kelly Road) to Route 11 (Main Street). Through July 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 600 – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Route 642 (Swartz Road). Through July 19 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 653 (Brook Creek Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 623 (Back Road) to Route 11 (Old Valley Pike). Through July 20 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 302 to 305, northbound – Brief early-morning “slow rolls” for utility work over the interstate, June 30 from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. In case of inclement weather, work will take place July 1. These operations may also affect I-66 westbound traffic.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for paving operation from Reliance Road to Winchester southern city limit, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday-Friday through July 31.

Route 11 – Alternating lane closures for pavement marking from Winchester northern city limit to end of divided highway (2 miles north of Winchester), 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 31.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 616 (Whissens Ridge Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 618 (Gough Road) to Route 619 (Perry Road). Through July 16 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 809 (McFarland Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 817 (Magic Mountain Road) to dead end. Through July 10 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Traffic pattern change for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County: Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Through July 6. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Overnight guardrail replacement from Page/Warren county line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive), 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through July 31.

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 609 (Ritenour Hollow Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 637 (Guard Hill Road) to Route 627 (Reliance Road). Through July 4 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Frederick County line to Route 340/522. Through July 25 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Guard Hill Road/Cauthorn Mill Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340/522 to Route 854 (Buckhorn Road). Through July 13 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
