Valley lawmakers sign amicus brief in prayer case

Del. R. Steven Landes, (R-Weyers Cave), along with Sen. Emmett W. Hanger, Jr, (R-Augusta County), and Delegates Dickie Bell (R-Staunton), Ben Cline (R-Amherst), and Todd Gilbert (R-Woodstock) have signed on to the Amici Brief in Town of Greece v. Galloway, which has now been filed with the Supreme Court of the United States.

VDOT sets public meeting on I-64 Fishersville project

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a pre-construction citizen information meeting regarding work at the Interstate 64, exit 91 interchange. The meeting will be held on April 4, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Preston L. Yancey Volunteer Fire Department located at 2015 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA 22939.

The only thing predictable about a “short” session is that the days will be full and pass by quickly. We are more than a third of the way through the 46 day session and had real fireworks this past week. On Monday, the nation celebrated Martin Luther King Day and the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. Nevertheless, since the Virginia Constitution calls for the General Assembly to be in session, we were hard at work considering bills and resolutions. All legislation has importance to someone, but overshadowing those bills was a tactic involving redistricting that was sprung on the Senate at the close of business on Monday afternoon.
