Farm Bureau convention will look at risk management

Almost 300 voting delegates representing 88 county Farm Bureaus statewide will gather next month to help shape Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s state and federal policies for the coming year. During this year’s VFBF Annual Convention, those delegates will discuss and vote on numerous policies that affect farmers and their livelihoods.

Roanoke Democratic State Del. Onzlee Ware announced Thursday that he is stepping down from his seat in the House of Delegates, citing his mother’s health as the issue. Former Democratic congressional nominee Sam Rasoul is among the candidates in the running to replace Ware in Richmond.

Virginia posts 5.4 percent revenue growth in October

October revenue collections for state government in Virginia decreased by 5.4 percent from October of last year. October is not a significant month for revenue collections. On a year-to-date basis, total revenue collections rose 0.6 percent through October, trailing the annual forecast of 1.5 percent growth.

Mark Herring now in lead in attorney general race

Democrat Mark Herring picked up significantly in a review of votes cast in Richmond, and has taken the lead in the still-too-close-to-call Virginia attorney general race. Herring leads Republican Mark Obenshain by 117 votes. Localities are expected to have their numbers in to the State Board of Elections by the close of the day on Tuesday.
