Anthony Harris highlights four UVa. football All-ACC honorees

Virginia football player Anthony Harris was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) football first team, announced by the league on Monday. Running back Kevin Parks was named to the second team, offensive tackle Morgan Moses was named to the third team and defensive tackle Brent Urban was an honorable mention selection.

Job status of Mike London appears secure despite 2-10 campaign

The last two UVa. football coaches responsible for 10-loss seasons – Sonny Randle in 1975 and Dick Bestwick in 1981 – were handed pink slips for their trouble. Al Groh got a pink slip from his alma mater in 2009 after going 3-9. Mike London, fresh off a 2-10 campaign, his third losing season in four years, appears to be on his way back in 2014.

Gov. McDonnell sets date for special election in Virginia House District 11

Gov. Bob McDonnell has set Jan. 7, 2014, as the date for the special election to fill the seat of Del. Onzlee Ware, who has announced his retirement from the Virginia House of Delegates. The governor will not issue the writ of election until Dec. 6 in order to give political parties and election officials time to prepare for the nomination process.

Cuccinelli challenges Obamacare employer mandate on Virginia businesses

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli filed a brief in federal court on Tuesday challenging the IRS’s enforcement of Obamacare’s employer mandate penalty against Virginia businesses, alleging the penalty cannot be enforced in the Commonwealth under the president’s healthcare law, also known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

Winter storm complicates Thanksgiving travel

An approaching winter storm is projected to bring Virginia snow to the west and two to four inches of rain in Richmond and surrounding areas today and tomorrow, likely creating havoc for holiday travelers. The storm, Boreas, made its grand entrance in California and pushed its deadly path as far as Texas creating treacherous traffic conditions.
