One merit of home garden blackberries is that picking them can be safer than picking along the side of a road. “These plants can be a great addition to the home garden,” said Chris Mullins of Virginia Cooperative Extension. “A home grower can probably get 10 to 20 pounds of fruit from each plant over the growing season, and they’re a perennial crop so they’re going to be here for a long time in the garden.”
