Improvements to the traffic signal system along Route 29 north of Charlottesville will require nighttime lane closures beginning next week. The work, which will be done at seven intersections between Hydraulic Road and Rio Road, will begin Monday, Oct. 6 and is anticipated to continue for several months.

UVA had a commanding 24-3 lead at the half Saturday night against Pitt. Scott Stadium was buzzing. A blowout win over an ACC rival was in the making. The Cavs had the ball to start the second half. Build on the strong second quarter showing with a successful first drive, put some more points on the board, and the game was over.

I first heard of Vincent F. (Vince) Callahan, Jr. in 1965 when he ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Virginia. It was his first run for political office, and while it may seem that he aimed high to start in those days it was easy to get the Republican nomination since the Republicans always lost.

Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 151 (Critzers Shop Road) are closed at their intersection on Afton Mountain, near the Albemarle-Nelson county line. A tanker truck hauling milk has overturned and spilled approximately 3,000 gallons onto the roadway.
