Five senior education students from Eastern Mennonite University were selected to attend the March 2-3 Teachers of Promise Foundation Institute in Richmond. The annual event brings together 100 outstanding pre-service teachers from Virginia for recognition, mentorship and professional development.

Nearly $420,000 will be awarded to 28 localities across the Commonwealth as part of a competitive process under the Supplemental Local Emergency Management Performance Grant program. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management will administer the funds, which Virginia receives annually from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board approved 23 contracts at their monthly meeting Wednesday totaling $167.5 million for projects and paving in the VDOT Culpeper, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Northern Virginia, Richmond, Salem and Staunton districts.
