Winners and Losers: All losers this week

LOSER: Mike Shanahan

OK, so Rex Grossman isn’t the solution. Don’t get too excited about his four TDs in Washington’s 33-30 loss at Dallas Sunday. He also had two interceptions and a sack fumble, and didn’t exactly look adept in his second run at a late-game two-minute drill.

Coach Mike Shanahan is back to square one with QBs heading into next year. (Pining the days of Jason Campbell, we are, aren’t we?)

So much for the offensive genius who was finally going to get things turned around in Redskin Park.

LOSER: ACC hoops

North Carolina continued its early-season stumble with a nationally-televised 78-76 loss to Texas on Saturday. The loss dropped the Heels to 7-4 on the season, and guaranteed another week of the ACC having a lone team in the Top 25.

LOSERS: Maryland football

OK, I didn’t vote for Ralph Friedgen, but enough of my peers did to make The Fridge the ACC Coach of the Year in 2010. His reward from his alma mater for the honor: don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out, big fella.

Maryland is reportedly pushing Friedgen out the door in the wake of offensive coordinator and coach-in-waiting James Franklin’s move to the head job at Vanderbilt. The thinking is that Friedgen, with a year left on his contract, is a lame duck, and that recruiting would be hampered as a result.

Here’s a wacky idea: Why not extend the guy?
