The Trump White House let Karoline Leavitt defend the racist video posted overnight by Donald Trump that depicted Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes, before deciding to delete the video and blame an unnamed staffer as being the racist.
Poor snow bunny, left hanging out to dry.
“This is from an Internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from ‘The Lion King.’ Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public,” Leavitt had said in a comment to PBS on the video, AI-created slop that pushed the debunked theory about the 2020 election being stolen.
By the way: there are no apes in “The Lion King.”
None.
Lions, hyenas, meerkats, baboons, a warthog, but no apes.
That one was a choice.
From the video being cast as clever commentary on Trump’s position vis-à-vis his Democratic critics, now the word is, it was some junior staffer.
The sound you hear is wagons circling.
“The White House has now taken down the post. A senior WH official tells me: “A White House staffer erroneously made the post. It has been taken down,” was the reporting on this from CNN White House correspondent Alayna Treene.
Doing a better job carrying the water for the Trumpers here is Politico West Wing Playbook journo Sophia Cai:
“President Trump didn’t see the video (legitimately didn’t), a staffer posted it.”
Why does anybody read Politico?
