film2The works of the three winners of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission’s 2014 Short Film Festival will be available on the City of Waynesboro access channel (#7 on Comcast and #20 on Lumos) at 11 am and 6 pm beginning September 16 and continuing to October 15.

The three films were selected by viewers of the Commission’s festival held June 22 at WTA’s Gateway.

Shoot, the first animated film shown at the festival, was directed and produced by Justin Garcia, a student at Regent University. The film received the Award of Merit at the Best Shorts Competition in LaJolla, California and the Platinum Award in the Pixie Film Awards.

Relativity Redux was written, directed and produced by Ramona Taylor,  co-founder of Shockoe Productions and founder of Caring Filed Films.  It was screened at the Charlotte Black Film Festival and was a winner at the 2013 North Carolina Black Film Festival. In addition to writing, filming and producing, Taylor does location scouting, camera, and script supervision, for local filmmakers.

Unwanted, produced by Hank Ebert and Dwayne Yancey was created for “Ride Solutions” bicycle short film competition held in May in Roanoke, Virginia, and was a audience choice winner.  Ebert is a news photographer at WDBJ-7 in Roanoke.  Yancey is a playwright who has had scripts produced across North America, as well as Great Britain, India, Singapore and South Africa. Unwanted is their third collaboration in short films.

The Cultural Commission is a group of citizens  of the City of Waynesboro appointed to serve and support the arts and culture in Waynesboro.  The Commission inaugurated the short film competition in 2011.  The competition was the work of lorie strother who chaired the event for the first three years.  At the beginning,  the competition was limited to Virginia filmmaker, but in 2013 it was opened to the residents of the Mid-Atlantic states.  The 2014 Festival combined the best entries of 2013 and 2014.
