Former Mississippi governor Ray Mabus will be in Waynesboro on Thursday to lead a “Real Change for Rural America” community forum for the Barack Obama presidential campaign.

Mabus served as governor of Mississippi from 1988-1992 and was selected as the best governor of the millennium in a 1999 poll commissioned by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. Mabus later served as the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia and is now a senior advisor to the Barack Obama campaign.

The Mabus visit will be part of a two-day swing through Rural Virginia that will also include stops in Danville, Martinsville, Bedford, Lexington and Farmville.

The Waynesboro event is set for 3 p.m. at the Rosenwald Community Center, 413 Port Republic Road.
