Washington tops Miami, 4-2

Chris Graham

washington nationalsA Jayson Werth single put Washington ahead in the seventh, and a two-run Clint Robinson single broke the game open as the Nats defeated the Miami Marlins, 4-2, on Sunday.

Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper traded RBI hits in the first, and the score remained deadlocked at 1-1 into the seventh, when Werth drove home Anthony Rendon with a soft liner to right off reliever Edwin Jackson.

Robinson provided insurance with a two-out, two-run single scoring Harper and Daniel Murphy to put Washington up 4-1.

Christian Yelich homered in the ninth off Nats closer Jonathan Papelbon, who went on to shut things down from there to record his third save.

Joe Ross (1-0) picked up the win, giving up a run on five hits in seven innings, striking out five and walking two.

Rendon had three hits for the Nats, and Harper and Murphy had two hits each for Washington (3-1).
