Washington Post poll: Ralph Northam, Mark Herring open up leads downticket

Democrat Ralph Northam has opened up a large lead in the Virginia lieutenant governor race, and ticketmate Mark Herring has pushed ahead in the attorney general race.

This according to a Washington Post poll released Monday night. The same poll has Democrat Terry McAuliffe leading Republican Ken Cuccinelli by 12 points in the governor’s race.

Northam leads Republican E.W. Jackson by a slightly larger margin, 13 points, 52 percent to 39 percent. The lead is similar to what we’ve seen in other recent polls in the LG race.

Herring’s lead over Republican Mark Obenshain, 49 percent to 46 percent, continues a back-and-forth trend in the attorney general race. That race has been within the margin of error for the past few weeks, with Herring’s three-point lead the largest margin between the two.
