p-natsThe Washington Nationals have assigned LHP Sammy Solis to the Potomac Nationals to begin a rehabilitation assignment. The left-handed relief pitcher will join the P-Nats Friday night at Pfitzner Stadium as the P-Nats host the Winston-Salem Dash at 7:05pm.

The lefty was placed on the 15-day DL on July 18th, retroactive to July 8th with right knee soreness. Solis will begin his rehab assignment with Potomac.

The 27-year-old Solis has been very good out of the Washington bullpen this season. With the Nationals, Solis has a 2.43 ERA over his first 25 outings, with 34 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.

Solis debuted with the Nationals on April 30th, 2015, as he tossed two shutout innings vs. the New York Mets. A starter through much of his Minor League career, the lefty transitioned to the bullpen in 2015, entering the season as the top ranked left-handed pitcher in the Nationals’ system.

The Nationals selected Solis with the 51st overall pick in the 2010 draft out of the University of San Diego. 2016 marks the fourth different season that Solis will have pitched for Potomac, though he first since his debut. In 2011, Solis went 6-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 10 starts for Potomac. In 2013, the lefty went 2-1 in 13 outings, 12 starts, with a 3.43 ERA for the P-Nats. Solis made one start for Potomac in 2014 and allowed one run over five innings in a victory. In all, the lefty has gone 8-3 with a 3.02 ERA and tallied 97 strikeouts in 119.0 innings for Potomac.

The P-Nats match up with the Winston-Salem Dash Friday night for the second game of a five-game series. First pitch is at 7:05pm and gates open at 6:00pm.
