Virginia State Police investigate fatal crash in Buckingham County

policecar3At 1:45 p.m., Thursday (Dec. 11), Virginia State Police Trooper R.M. Chambliss responded to a two-vehicle crash in Buckingham County. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 20 and Route 679, just south of Scottsville.

A 1997 Infiniti was traveling north on Route 20 when it ran off the left side the road. The driver then swerved back into the roadway, overcorrected and continued left again into the southbound lane of Route 20. There the Infiniti struck a southbound tractor-trailer head on.

The driver of the Infiniti, Riley M. Cole, 22, of Earlysville, Va., died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Wayne E. Jamerson, 62, of Buckingham County, Va., was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
