Virginia State Police investigate fatal Augusta County crash

Virginia State Police Trooper J.C. Crabtree is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred Sunday (Jan. 19, 2014), at 5:40 p.m. on Route 340, approximately a mile north of Route 778.

policecar3A 2003 Kia Spectra was traveling along Route 340 when it ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle went up an embankment, struck two small trees and overturned.

The driver, Kara L. Gray, 29, 0f Port Republic, Va., was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Gray was transported to UVA Medical Center, where she died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
