uva-logo-new2UVA senior wrestler Nick Sulzer (Cleveland, Ohio) will compete in the 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic on Nov. 1 in Philadelphia at The Palestra. Sulzer will wrestle Oklahoma State junior Alex Dieringer, the 2014 NCAA Champion at 157 pounds, who is moving up a weight class this season.

This will be the first meeting between the wrestlers.

Sulzer is the first wrestler from Virginia to compete in the event since 2009 and the fourth overall. Current Virginia head coach Steve Garland was the first Cavalier wrestler to compete in the event in 2000. Scott Moore has the lone win by a Virginia wrestler, beating Oklahoma’s Teyon Ware in 2004 at 141. Chris Henrich competed in 2009, falling to Nebraska’s Stephen Dwyer 7-6 at 174 pounds.

Sulzer has earned All-America honors each of the past two seasons at 165 pounds and has qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of his three seasons. He took eighth in 2013 and fourth in 2014. He was 36-3 last season while racking up 17 major decisions and winning his first ACC championship. Sulzer now boasts a career mark of 90-23. Through three seasons, he already ranks 15th in career wins at Virginia and his .796 career winning percentage is ninth in school history.

Dieringer also is a two-time All-American and a 2013 Junior World silver medalist. He went 32-1 last season en route to the NCAA championship.

The event will be streamed live by Flowrestling. Fox College Sports will air the event on television via tape-delay at times to be announced.

Virginia opens its 2014-15 season the next day, Nov. 2, in Charlottesville with a quad meet against Anderson, VMI and George Mason.
