The UVA Football team only had 11 guys among the 170 or so nominees for spots on the All-ACC Preseason Football Team.
Only one of the 11 was named to the team – safety Jonas Sanker, a 2023 All-ACC first-teamer.
Sanker, a senior, had a team-best 77.8 PFF grade in 2023, and he also led the defensive unit in snaps (he was on the field for 834 of the UVA D’s 846 snaps in 2023).
Sanker led the team in tackles (114), stops (32) and pass breakups (8).
The defensive unit’s other top player, sophomore linebacker Kam Robinson, wasn’t even among the nominees at the linebacker spot.

Here I am complaining: I didn’t even cast a vote.
I think these things are silly, personally, and I don’t think more than a few of the people who vote take the thing seriously, and how could you, with a league that has 17 schools across the expanse of the country.
You’re telling me that the 170 media types who voted this year looked up the blocking stats across the five O line spots, and put time and mental energy into the merits of the 15 nominees at defensive tackle?
No.
Anyway, congrats to Jonas Sanker.
He deserved it. So did Kam Robinson, and I think wideout Malachi Fields and center Brian Stevens got the short end of the stick, too, for that matter.
