UVA football: Andrew Brown ready to shine?

Chris Graham

brownNational top 10 recruit Andrew Brown had a forgettable, to say the least, freshman season in 2014, “limited,” he said, answering a reporter’s question on how he would sum up his first year in college football, by turf toe and shoulder injuries that had him playing catch up all fall.

“I couldn’t achieve my full potential,” said Brown, who had six tackles in six games in 2014.

Listed at 6’4”, 290, coach Mike London told reporters before Friday’s spring scrimmage that Brown was in noticeably better shape than he was last spring.

“He’s kind of figured this whole college thing out. He’s matured a little bit. You can ask him, not that anyone wants injury or to deal with setbacks, but him having to deal with adversity and setbacks has put him in a position to be a better player now,” London said.

An anchor in the 4-3 defensive front, Brown knows that he needs to be the dominant player inside that he projected to be coming out of high school.

“My role has definitely changed. I’ve got to step up. We lost a lot of kay players. Now it’s time for me to step in and handle my responsibilities,” Brown said.
