UVA Baseball alums Griff O’Ferrall and Ethan Anderson made their professional debuts Tuesday night for the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds.
Both players were added to the Shorebirds roster Monday and were in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the Carolina Mudcats.
The Baltimore Orioles took O’Ferrall with the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, while Anderson was a second-round pick and 64th overall.
O’Ferrall wasted no time in collecting his first professional hit.
Batting third in the lineup, O’Ferrall lined a single to right field in the first.
Later in the game, O’Ferrall picked up his first RBI on a groundout to third base that scored Colin Tuft from third.
Tuft, you may remember, began his career at UVA before transferring to Tulane.
O’Ferrall also walked in the fourth inning.
Anderson went hitless in four plate appearances.
Tuesday’s attendance at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium was 1,477.
In O’Ferrall’s and Anderson’s last college game, a 7-3 loss to Florida State in the College World Series, the attendance was 23,989.
Welcome to the minors.
