Baltimore starter Miguel Gonzalez was rocked early and often in a 15-2 O’s loss to the Minnesota Twins Thursday in the opener of a four-game series at Camden Yards.
Gonzalez (9-9, 4.74 ERA) was charged with seven runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Reliever T.J. McFarland took one for the team late, giving up six runs on seven hits in two innings of relief, seeing his ERA for the season double – from 2.25 to 4.50 with the one bad outing.
Tyler Duffey (2-1, 4.60 ERA) took a shutout into the eighth to get the win for the Twins (60-61).
Baltimore (62-58) is five games out of first in the American League East and is a half-game out of the second wild-card spot in the AL.
