Trump gets NATO to agree to do what we’ve been doing in Greenland since 1951

Donald Trump thinks he has the “framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland,” which doesn’t involve the U.S. taking the large island territory abutting the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, as he had been threatening, for weeks.

CNN is reporting that the framework includes renegotiating the 1951 agreement that gives the U.S. military a permanent presence on the island.

The U.S. military has one base on Greenland; Denmark is now reportedly willing to welcome additional military resources, and a promise that “Russia and China never gain a foothold” in Greenland, which seems easy enough.

It’s been the Trump regime that has weakened U.S. soft power projection in the international sphere, with the own goal of killing USAID, and the dumb tariffs that were met with retaliation by dozens of our trading partners.

Basically, stop cutting off our allies, like Denmark, and Russia and China won’t have any opportunities to encroach on our territory.

Anyway, Trump declared victory, such as it is, and called off the new tariffs on European nations that he had set to go into effect on Feb. 1.

“It’s a long-term deal, it’s the ultimate long-term deal,” Trump told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

So long term, in fact, that it’s been ongoing since 1951.
