Less of us will be traveling for the Fourth. That’s according to AAA, which is projecting a 1.3 percent decrease in the number of Americans hitting the roads for the long holiday weekend.

Even so, more than 40 million Americans will be out and about next weekend, record-high gas prices or not.

“While the numbers of travelers are a bit off from last year’s levels, it is important to note that there are still millions of Americans that plan to plan to travel,” AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesperson Martha Meade said.

Fourth of July travel was also down 1 percent in 2007 from the year previous, according to AAA.
